Five on Friday- What's On My Mind

This may be the most random blog post ever but I'm using naptime to play on here rather than work on the things I actually need to work on :)  So, I'm jumping in with Five on Friday with some things on my mind.  Bear with me....

{ONE} Melissa Smith Designs....Goals

I opened my Etsy shop in June.  I have a LOT to work toward but I'm pretty proud with the things I've done so far.  I made a map of all the states I've shipped some of my items too and it's just fun to see.  2018....I want to fill it up!  I have learned so much already and I just pray that I can continue to learn and make smart decisions.  I have a LOT of goals in mind for 2018 and I can't wait to get started on some new patterns and designs.  Stay tuned!

... meanwhile.. see a super cute new item below that I'll be listing at the beginning of the year!  Make sure to favorite my shop (check it out here)  Also, I'm on Instagram and Facebook ;)

{TWO} A Nostalgic Snack

Did you have something growing up that whenever you make it now, it reminds you of your childhood?  We had this super easy, super cheap snack a lot when I was kid.  Occasionally, I like to make it now :) All it is is a saltine cracker with peanut butter and a few marshmallows (or 9 if you are picky like me lol) then you put it in the toaster or oven on broil until the marshmallows are to the desired brown-ness (proper terms here....).  Enjoy! haha  So what is it that reminds you of your childhood?

{THREE} Essential Oils + Diffuser question for you

One | Two | Three | Four

I think I'm the last of my friends to jump on the Essential Oils bandwagon but I finally ordered the starter kit with Young Living.  I ordered the starter kit with the dewdrop diffuser (and some snifflease) but I need more diffusers.  I've found these on Amazon.  Have you tried any of these?  I just can't drop $50+ on another diffuser considering I need like 3 more.  Also... what are your favorite combinations for your diffuser?  I like a light scent and nothing woodsy.  I'm more of a tropical, beachy scent person :) (my links are affiliate links)

{FOUR} Santa Baby

I just had to post this "timehop" and re-do it this year to compare because seriously.... how cute is he?  This is 4 months vs 16 months.  It's bittersweet really.  He's just growing so fast!
{FIVE} Do Something Nice for Someone This Christmas

I had something completely different written for this one and then I saw a video that Melissa Radke (is that her name?) put up.  She had a card that she had kept for 10 or 11 years that someone wrote to her.  It was a reminder that this Christmas could be the first Christmas that someone is spending without their spouse. Or perhaps parents are spending it away from their child.  Or spending it in the hospital with a loved one.  Just a reminder that amongst all the holiday joy, there are also people hurting.  I know this Christmas for my family is a little raw as we lost my grandfather in August.  My last grandparent.  But I also know of other families that are going through different (and very difficult) situations.

So this is a reminder to you as well as myself.... take a few minutes to write an encouraging note to someone.  It could very well be the thing that they need at that moment.  I've beat myself up for the past 2 years because I haven't designed the perfect Christmas card like I used to.  But you know what.  Who even cares?  I'm going to go to Walmart tomorrow and buy some pretty Christmas cards and get a few pictures of my boys printed out and go "old school" and write a few cards to people.  Sometimes just letting someone know how you feel about them or how much they mean to you is a gift in itself.  Think of how you would feel if someone went out of their way to write you a card expressing that.  I know how much I've appreciated it when someone has done it for me.

{Six} Max Lucado's Book.... "You Are Mine"

I'm doing 6 things because it's my blog and I can :)  I bought Max Lucado's "You Are Mine" and "You Are Special" probably about 3 years ago. I had not read either one of them yet because they are a bit long and Maddox's attention span hasn't been up for the challenge... until tonight.  I read him You Are Mine and wow... I was convicted. By a children's book.  The message behind the story is very powerful.  It's a reminder that we don't need to compare ourselves with others or try to always have the best of the best in the world's eyes because "You're special-- not because of what you have.  You're special because of who you are.  You are mine.  I love you, Don't forget that".  I'm sure my 3yr old did not really understand all of that story but it doesn't even matter.  This one is for the reader.  I highly recommend it.  (yes, my links are affiliate links but no one gave me anything to say what I said lol)

Well... until next time ;)
